A square 1:1 crop is one of the most commonly requested image shapes on the web — social media grid posts, product thumbnails, and many contact or profile layouts all expect it, and will otherwise crop your photo automatically in ways you can't control. This tool locks the crop window to an exact square and lets you drag and zoom the photo underneath it to choose precisely what stays in frame, rather than leaving that decision to whichever platform you upload to. The result downloads as a standard JPEG at the exact pixel size of your selection. Everything happens locally in your browser via Canvas — your photo is never uploaded to a server, and you can preview the square crop before downloading.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I need a square crop specifically?

Many platforms and layouts — social media grid posts, product thumbnails, contact cards — expect a 1:1 square image and will crop or letterbox anything else automatically. Cropping it yourself first gives you control over what's kept.

How is this different from the Circle Crop tool?

Both use a locked 1:1 aspect ratio, but Square Crop keeps sharp corners while Circle Crop clips the result into a round shape with a transparent background.

What format does the square crop download as?

A JPEG file at the exact pixel dimensions of the square you selected.
