JPEG, PNG, or WebP
Most profile picture and avatar slots — social media, messaging apps, forum accounts — display your photo inside a circular frame, even though the file underneath is still a plain rectangle. Rather than guess at how a square crop will look once a platform rounds its corners, this tool shows you the actual circular result directly, with a round crop window you can drag and zoom to frame your face or subject exactly where you want it. The output downloads as a transparent PNG, so the area outside the circle stays properly transparent rather than filled with a solid color. Everything runs locally in your browser via Canvas — your photo is never uploaded to a server.
How it works
- 1
Upload a photo.
- 2
Drag and zoom inside the round crop window to frame your subject.
- 3
Click "Crop Image" and download the transparent-background circular PNG.
Frequently asked questions
What file format does a circle crop download as?
PNG, since the corners outside the circle need transparency rather than a solid background — a JPEG cannot represent that.
Will the transparent corners show up as white on every platform?
No — PNG transparency is preserved wherever you use the file. It will only appear as a solid color if you specifically flatten it onto a background later (for example, by re-saving as JPEG).
What is this best used for?
Profile pictures, avatars, and any design that calls for a circular photo frame — social media profile photos are the most common use case.
